Fighting Fantasy books coming to iPhone

80s RPG paperbacks get a digital upgrade

The Fighting Fantasy range of gamebooks, which were an introduction to the world of fantasy for thousands of kids in the 80s and 90s, are coming to the iPhone.

The founder of the series, Ian Livingstone, confirmed earlier in the month that they'd be arriving later this year, and now the publisher - Big Blue Bubble, which has already turned The Warlock Of Firetop Mountain into a DS title - has released a few more details.

Five iPhone releases will occur - Warlock of Firetop Mountain, Citadel of Chaos, Deathtrap Dungeon, Creature of Havoc and City of Thieves. They'll be direct ports of the books, meaning that text, illustrations and the combat system will be in place.

However, instead of rolling dice to find out if you get eaten by a goblin, you can shake the handset and a dice will be rolled on your behalf. A save game function has also been added, so that you can try again if you're bested by a golem.

The first game is due in October, and the other four will follow after with approximately two months between each. Pricing has been estimated at 59-99p, but hasn't been officially announced.
