News coming in from Taipei seems to further cement the rumoured news that Apple's forthcoming range of iPods will have a decidedly image-led focus.Following various rumours and reports that when the range is refreshed in September, the MP3 players will get built-in cameras, a manufacturing news source is claiming to confirm which company has won the order to produce the image sensors.
OmniVision has secured the CMOS image sensor order for Apple's coming soon iPods, DigiTimes reports "market sources" as stating.
DigiTimes says: "OmniVision will be the sole supplier of 3.2-megapixel CIS products for new iPod nano, iPod classic and iPod touch models which will be launched in September, the sources indicated".
That the iPod classic is to get a camera module has not been widely reported.
OmniVision is said to be one of the suppliers for the iPhone 3GS's camera module and is apparently expected to ship 18 million products to Apple per quarter.
The event to launch the new iPods has been suggested as due to take place on 9 September - we will keep you posted.
