Apple iPod launch event rumoured for 9 September

Range refresh expected, but no iPad announcement yet

Reports are coming in that suggest Apple has finalised the date for the media event to introduce its new line-up of iPods.

Apple is planning a now traditional September debut for the new devices and AppleInsider follows the D: All Things Digital in throwing forward 9 September as the date to diarise.

The event may be Steve Jobs' first time back in the media spotlight after his leave of absence for health reasons.

Expected to be revealed is a new iPod nano and iPod touch, heavily rumoured to offer built-in cameras and iTunes 9, although AppleInsider says it "has it on authority that cameras are just one piece to this year's iPod story".

We will keep you posted.
