Canon IXUS 200 IS takes Canon touchscreen

While IXUS 120 goes wide

Canon has followed hot on the heals of Sony, Samsung and Nikon with the launch of its first touchscreen Ixus model

The new technology, a first for canons' Ixus range, will allow users to tap the 3-inch screen that dominates the back to take pictures, focus on subjects and scroll through images you've already taken.

On the inside users will get the 12.1 megapixel sensor and a 24mm ultra-wide angle lens with 5x optical zoom.

Hoping to appeal to the new wave of digital camera users entering the market, Canon has said that it has added a ’Hints & Tips’ feature that will guide you through your picture taking helping you to understand the settings and functions.

Elsewhere the camera will get Smart Auto mode with Scene Detection Technology allows you to simply point and shoot, Face detection and the usual array of Canon goodies.

As with previous IXUS models the camera will come in an array of colours; Blue, Gold, Purple, or Silver when it goes on sale in early September 2009 priced at £329.00 in the UK and €379.00 in Europe.

Meanwhile those not interested in touch get the IXUS 120 IS Canon's "Slimmest ever wide-angle" digital IXUS.

In reality that means you get a 28mm wide angle lens, 4x zoom and 12.1 megapixel image sensor with a 2.7 inch PureColour LCD II screen in a box that measures 89 (W) x 55 (H) x 20 (D) mm.

It too will come with the hints and tips feature, offer 720p video recording and come in four colours; black, blue, brown or silver.

Like the IXUS 200 IS the Digital IXUS 120 IS is available from early September and will cost you £299.00 in the UK and €349.00 in Europe.
