PSN down "for maintenance" during Sony GamesCom talk

New features coming?

18 August 2009 11:19 GMT / By Duncan Geere

A bunch of eagle-eyed Sony fans have noticed that the company has scheduled downtime for its Playstation Network (PSN), starting 9am PST on 18 August.

Not that exciting, until you add the info that Sony's GamesCom press conference starts at 6pm on August 18 in Germany. There's a GMT +1 time difference in Deutschland, and a GMT -8 time difference on the west coast of the US,

Putting +1 and -8 together, that means that both events happen to coincide. Throw in a few rumours that major new additions will be made to the PSN, and the stage is set for a big reveal for Sony. We'll let you know what happens as soon as it breaks.
