Google launches Chrome bookmark syncing

18 August 2009 10:39 GMT / By Duncan Geere

Google's Chrome browser is adding features at a rate of knots. The team behind the software has announced that the latest version of Chrome will feature bookmark syncing between browsers.

What that means is that if you save a bookmark on your browser, but then leave that computer and switch to another one, then it'll be there ready and waiting for you. Could prove useful for saving those links to hilarious videos that your friends keep sending you at work until you get home.

At the moment, the feature is limited to the unstable "dev channel". You can try it, but it hasn't rolled out yet to the more polished end of the browser's release versions. However, if there's no major bugs, then expect bookmark syncing to show up in regular Chrome within a few months.

  • So, is this data being stored in Google'd ad-laden data-servers ? Can see the day, if it is widely used, when you suddenly get re-targetted to advertiser websites before being redirected to your favorite site.
And it will no doubt be a subtle transistion to get people used to it before making Google more money from advertisers whilst degrading our internert experience.

  • Chrome already stores your history and shows your most visited sites when you start it up. Google's got pretty much all your email records too, if you use GMail. Google may be a dictator, but it seems to be benevolent one. Posted by radioedit, United Kingdom
