Man busted selling oven door as HDTV

14 August 2009 14:30 GMT / By Duncan Geere

Police in San Leandro, California, have caught a sneaky guy trying to pass off an oven door as a 37-inch HDTV. He was reported as trying to sell the television in a Wal-mart parking lot, but when the cops investigated, all they found an oven door covered in stickers.

Not one to do things lightly, he'd even stuffed cables, a remote, and a manual in the back to make it more convincing. "It was very ingenious", said police Lt. Pete Ballew, "If you were a bargain hunter, you might think, 'Wow, this is the deal of the day'".

The man in question, one Anthony Myles, 52, was arrested for driving on a suspended license. Police confiscated the oven door, but no charges were filed in relation to the sale.

Do you know anyone who might fall for this sort of trick? Let us know in the comments.
