UK Xbox gamers will be getting a string of new features on the game console on tuesday Microsoft has said.

"There will be a mandatory Xbox LIVE Service update on 11 August 2009. The update will occur automatically when you start your Xbox 360," Microsoft said in an email to gamers over the weekend.

New features which are for gold members only include a streamlined interface with the ability to download full Xbox 360 games over the service without the need to own the physical disc.

Also new is a new Avatar Marketplace that will let you customize your avatar with new clothing, items and looks say Microsoft.

Other features include the ability to rate any game content on Xbox LIVE, as well as, sort by rating to find games, demos, trailers and more that have received top ratings.

    Where is Spotify or similar
Where is an area for free games and utilities

Bought My XBOX at Christmas and have been impressed with the few mainstream titles that clearly someone has developed exclusively for the XBOX and/OR PS3 but there is far too much of the same thing... Find XBOX LIVE like some kind of glassy eyed cash cow for Microsoft. I have already bought the system, already buy the games (Though most second hand within a couple of months of launch!), now they want £50 a year to get demos first. What a great way to alienate the casual gamer.

Find little interesting on LIVE, just lots of promotional videos featuring the same identikit Blue Peter Wannabees spouting on about how 'Great' something is, how this party, to which you weren't invited, is Fab, and overreaching branding and marketing on their closed system. Three Hutchinson tried ring fencing an area of the Internet almost a decade ago! Dropped it now. For example, cannot believe, as a past big player of Unreal Tournament, that Microsoft wants to CHARGE for map packs to increase a games longevity if you make them free then people build them for the respect and kudos alone.

I know they are making money while the sun shines, but the pricing in films, especially old films where the DVD costs a few quid online, is abysmally high and far too restrictive. I found I could buy Tropic Thunder new for slightly less than the download, at a local store, and then I actually OWNED IT..... and could WATCH IT WHEN I WANTED!!!

The world is moving and I am not sure that Microsoft are being pulled along enough by it. I had hoped by now to have a browser at least, like my wii has had from early on, but still none!

I am seriously thinking of buying a NetTop to stick by my tv instead because then I can surf the web and play youtube videos without being charged an appallingly large amount of money by Microsoft....

Please change, and give us an update that makes sense. i heard that VOD tv might be coming to the XBOX but if they take the same 'squeeze em hard' attitude towards pricing, then all that infrastructure investment will be worth very little if we all don't bother because using our laptops gives us more, legally, faster and for free than XBOX meagrely ekes out to us.. I know all companies have to make money, but when it is virtually free to use iplayer and youtube online, why is someone going to cough up £3 to see an episode of a series or a film ONCE.

Take off the suits and take down the barriers!
