Samsung has announced a new "green" handset in New York as it continues to offer more environmentally-friendly products.Launched in conjunction with US operator Sprint, the new handset, called the Samsung "Reclaim", will be manufactured from bioplastics made from corn.
"80% of the phone is made from recycled materials", said Sprint CEO Dan Hesse.
The new phone, which will go on sale later this month, will offer eco fans a QWERTY keyboard, a 2-megapixel camera and access to social networking sites like Facebook. It will run on the brew OS and come with a WAP browser rather than HTML for proper web surfing.
The charger will apparently use 12 times less power than standard chargers and alert the user when the device is fully charged.
Keeping with the green theme, the bright green or blue handset will be packaged in a box that is made from 70% recycled material and not come with a manual.
Samsung has told Pocket-lint that although no handset has been made in conjunction with Sprint, it does plan to bring other Eco handsets to other markets and operators around the globe including the UK.
