O2 suffers another data meltdown

As Twitter texts hit 500,000

Customers of UK operator O2 have suffered further disruption today as yet more problems with O2's data network left customers unable to access the Internet.

"We're having a problem with our data network which will affect data services for some customers. We are working to fix this ASAP", O2 stated via its official Twitter feed.

A later tweet read: "We've fixed our data network - you should now be able to access the internet again".

This is the fourth incident in recent weeks that has seen O2's customers experiencing problems, the first of which was a fire at a London substation that caused local issues, followed by a data services crash on 21 July and then roaming issues on 24 July.

Despite the problems with data, it seems the first week of O2's Twitter texts service is a success. Another tweet reveals: "We've sent out more than 500,000 Twitter text messages in just over a week!"
