Somerset schools to tweet meals daily

Council using Twitter to inform parents about kid's menus

6 August 2009 11:35 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Somerset County Council has announced it is to become the first in the country to offer parents a daily "school menu" update.

From the start of the autumn term parents across Somerset will be able to subscribe to a daily tweet informing them what their little one(s) will be eating for lunch.

The plan is to keep parents informed on the healthy eating options their school is providing, rather than work as an early warning oh-no-Johnny-hates-liver-better-make-him-some-Marmite-sarnies system.

The feed will also be used to update parents on special theme days, taster sessions and how to apply for free school meals.

Parents can start following http://www.twitter.com/SCSSchoolmeals now in order to get the updates in September.
