Palm's advertising campaign is spawning a number of spoofs on YouTube as consumers and journalists alike are spilt over whether or not they are "creepy".
"We weren't trying to creep people out, but one thing I have learned now in this digital age is people can be as rude as they want as long as they don't have to look you in the face," Mr. Koepke, the campaigns creator told advertising journal Ad Age. "The Pre is probably being talked about more than other phones right now because of the marketing and advertising, and that's a good thing. Could the ads work harder to show exactly how the phone works? Yes, but we knew it would be polarizing people to have a woman not shout at them and tell an interesting story".
The ads, which are like nothing else on American television, involve actress Tamara Hope talking directly at the camera about experiences in her life to a Tubular Bell's-esque sound track with the payoff being that her phone, the Palm Pre has helped her out.
Meanwhile the spoofs range from people in a cupboard (see video above) to a horror style script with spooky soundtrack as people give there spin on the adverts message.
The Palm Pre, which is yet to launch in the UK, is out exclusively later in the year on operator O2. It is not sure whether or not the mobile phone maker will use the adds in the UK.
Palm isn't the first technology company to be criticised over the use of kooky adverts. Microsoft ran in to criticism for its Seinfeld and Gates adverts, and again for its latest round of adverts for its browser IE8.
What do you think of the ads? Do they want to make you buy the Palm Pre?
