Muswell Hill and Whitchurch in Cardiff revealed as test locations

TalkTalk is running a trial of "lightning fast" broadband in two areas in the UK.

Between August 2009 and January 2010 TalkTalk customers in Muswell Hill in London and Whitchurch in Cardiff will be getting broadband speeds of up to 40Mbps.

TalkTalk says it will be testing the tech before deciding on a network rollout.

Customers taking part in the trial will receive a new router and modem, as well as a visit from an engineer to set it all up.

Those involved in the trial will get a TalkTalk "Essentials" phone and broadband package free for the length of the trial.

Rival broadband operator BT's super-fast fibre broadband locations currently cover more than a million homes and businesses across the UK, with 1.5 million homes due for access by early summer 2010.

Virgin Media's broadband network now offers 50Mbps speeds to 12 million homes across the UK.
