As well as the S1000pj compact that offers a built-in pico projector, Nikon has also announced the introduction of two more COOLPIX branded compacts, one which is "as fast as a DSLR" and the other, an "elegantly stylish, yet simple to use colourful" model.

Both the new models offer 12-megapixels, feature 5x zoom NIKKOR lenses, Nikon's own EXPEED digital image processing and 2.7-inch LCD screens.

The COOLPIX S640 is said to be the fastest camera in the COOLPIX range, boasts "the fastest start up time in the compact camera industry" - and - autofocus "as fast as a DSLR".

Availability is TBC, but it will be offered in black and silver for £249.99, or 303 euros.

The S570 is angled straight at the (affluent) consumer with true point-and-shoot ease of use for "even those with no photography experience to capture special moments".

The S570 will go on sale in September in black, silver and red for £199.99 or 242 euros.
