RIM announces BlackBerry App World 1.1

Big update for application store

RIM's version of the app store for its BlackBerry smartphones has been given a major update as well as seeing expansion into over 10 new countries.

The Canadian manufacturer has released BlackBerry App World 1.1, which is available to download in five languages - English, French, Italian, German and Spanish.

The application shop front is now available in Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Ireland, Austria, Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal and the Channel Islands.

RIM claims the search has been improved in the new version with more categories for the top free and paid-for apps with options to search by newest, highest rates and price as well as by app and developer name.

Another big change is the ability to archive apps. Rather than relying on flash memory alone, customers can now archive their apps to SD Card or eMMC and reinstall when they want to use it.

To get the 1.1 version, new users should go to Mobile.BlackBerry.com or BlackBerry.com/AppWorld while current users will be prompted to download version 1.1.
