7digital signs pan-European MP3 deal with Warner

Could fuel Spotify expansion

3 August 2009 10:36 GMT / By Duncan Geere

7digital has announced that it's signed a pan-European deal with Warner Music that'll allow the former to sell MP3s from the major label across France, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy and Portugal, in addition to the already-existing deals in the UK, Ireland, Spain, Austria and Germany.

It also means that 7Digital's partner networks will have access to those countries without having to strike their own local deals. Companies that sell 7digital MP3s include Spotify, Last.fm, WinAmp and Songbird.

Ben Drury, CEO 7digital, said "The completion of this deal gives us the broadest European reach of any MP3 download store. We've seen a dramatic rise in digital album sales since switching to a 100% MP3 catalogue in the UK last September and this is a natural progression to that trend".
