Philips has announced the launch of the BDP3000 Blu-ray player with the claim that it will make the "stunning quality of Full HD movies available to more people than ever before".
The new player does have a more reasonable street price than we're used to seeing from Blu-ray players, especially considering it's a fully fledged BD-Live capable, Profile 2.0 machine, available now for £169.
Cost saving seems to have come in with the angle that you have to add your own external storage solution to access some of the BD-Live bits, rather than getting flash memory built-in.
Measuring 435 x 58 x 308mm, the BDP3000 boasts "ultra low" 0.5W standby power, 1080p 24fps Full HD images while the BDP3000 can also upscale existing DVDs to near 1080p HD quality. There's also Dolby TrueHD 7.1 surround sound decoding, x.v.Colour tech, DivX, MP3 and Jpeg playback.
