Concept TV displays 4:3 and widescreen

30 July 2009 10:40 GMT / By Duncan Geere

If your life is plagued by black bars either side of your content, because you consume in both 4:3 (standard) and 16:9 (widescreen) aspect ratios, then Studio FRST have a promising concept.

It's a television that can flick between 4:3 and 16:9 without any reduction of image size. Imaginatively, it's called the 16943 TV. The design company calls it "a technological sculpture in levitation. Between opacity and transparency", whatever that means.

There's absolutely zilcho in terms of specs, except that it seems to have an inbuilt DVD player and measures 618 x 840 x 120mm. What would you do with that little extra square of space?
