Dell has announced the UK release of the Inspiron 17 laptop. Claiming it blurs the lines between desktop and laptop functionality, the 17 gets a 17.3-inch display.

The 16:9 WLED screen is backed up by a full-size keyboard with number pad in a 3.1kg package.

The Inspiron 17 is offered with a choice of Intel Celeron, Dual Core and Core 2 Duo processor options, up to 500GB hard drive, up to 8GB RAM, Intel and ATI graphics options and a 6- or 9-cell battery.

Features include a 1.3-megapixel webcam, a 7-in-1 media card reader, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and Windows Vista Home Premium.

As is Dell's usual MO, there are options galore available at extra cost including facial recognition tech, a Blu-ray disc drive and, from October, an HD display.

Ultimately due to be offered in seven "glossy" colours (black, red and blue available now) on Dell.co.uk, the Inspiron 17 starts at £369 including VAT and delivery.
