Nikon launches entry-level D3000 DSLR camera

With "Guide" shooting mode

Nikon has announced the launch of the D3000 digital SLR, joining the DX range of cameras as a new entry-level model.

Aimed at newcomers to the DSLR market, the D3000 is targeting those trading-up from a compact camera, offering Nikon's Guide setting on the dial, that like the Canon 500D, will lead amateurs through the settings to help achieve their creative aims.

Around the back you'll find a 3-inch 230k-dot screen, whilst inside is a 10.2-effective megapixel sensor backed by Nikon's EXPEED image processing system.

It features an 11-point AF system, 3fps continuous shooting as well as Nikon's Active D-Lighting system to help you get the most from your photography.

Picture controls can be applied pre- or post-shoot, and a new retouching menu will also allow you to make various changes without the need for a computer, giving you 15 retouching options in total.

It will be compatible with DX lenses, and will be sold as a kit with the AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm lens.

Yours for £429.99/£499.99 kit the D3000 will be available from 28 August.
