Apple updates Final Cut Studio

23 July 2009 14:45 GMT / By Duncan Geere

Apple has announced an update for its Final Cut Studio video editing software. The company claims it's adding more than 100 new features, and included are new versions of Final Cut Pro, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, Color and Compressor.

Among the new features are real-time collaboration for Final Cut Pro 7, 3Dshadows, reflections and depth of field for Motion 4, and multitrack audio tools for Soundtrack Pro 3. There's also better Final Cut Pro integration for Color 1.5 and more options in Compressor 3.5.

"The new Final Cut Studio includes more than 100 new features and dramatically expands Apple's ProRes family of codecs so editors can work in the studio with the highest quality video or on location at low bandwidths", said Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product
Marketing, Phil Schiller.

Final Cut Studio is available now from Apple stores and costs £800 new, or a whopping £250 to upgrade from a previous version.

  • Apple seems to have caught Microsoftitis - the sad case of adding junk to prefectly acceptable software just because one ot two people might have asked for it.
99% of the users are likely to never use these 100 new add-ons.
But it does justify the price (in their eyes).
