Kazaa has been "jolted back into life" as a legal digital music service in the US.
The peer-to-peer file-sharing service got into legal hot water in the mid-Nineties, Kazaa follows Napster and more recently, The Pirate Bay, in going legit.
The decision to reboot the Kazaa brand at www.kazaa.com will see another music subscription service available in the States, offering music and ringtones via a $20 per month subscription.
Major record companies Universal, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music and EMI, together with a number of independent labels, have entered into agreements to provide content.
Kevin Bermeister, CEO said, "We are delighted to be able to deliver a fresh and exciting music platform to customers via an established icon like Kazaa".
