Toshiba launches connected "digital media frames"

With FrameChannel content

In the US, Toshiba has launched a new range of "digital media frames" that deliver real-time information such as personalised weather, traffic, and sports scores as well as music and video.

This content delivery is thanks to not only the frame's Wi-Fi connectivity but a team-up with FrameChannel to which frame owners need to set-up an account.

Once set up users can subscribe to the RSS feeds as well as upload images or link favourite photos, music and videos from sites like Flickr, Photobucket and Facebook.

FrameChannel offers over 1000 free channels to choose from in 19 categories with selections like People.com, Men's Tennis, 3-Day Forecast, Stock Quotes and Facebook.

Specs-wise, the frames are available in 8- and 10-inch sizes, have a tilt sensor for portrait or landscape formats, touch sensitive controls and offer a calendar and a clock.

The displays are said to be high-res, and with built-in speakers there's support for WMA and MP3 as well as Jpeg, TIFF and BMP.

The new digital media frame range will be available in the States in August for $180 for the black or white 8-inchers and $230 for the 10-inch version in black.
