Mac BlackBerry Desktop Software Finally Confirmed

RIM has confirmed that it will be launching a Mac version of its Desktop software later in the year.

The new software, confirmed on the company's blog, will build on the Media sync application released in 2008 and offer users the chance to connect their BlackBerry to the Mac.

According to RIM, features will include the ability to sync to iTunes, contacts, calendar, notes and tasks as well as manage applications.

Most important of all however, users will be able to update their BlackBerry's operating system without having to resort to over the air (OTA) options or a friends PC.

RIM has also confirmed that Mac users will also be able to backup and restore a device's data with such features like automatically scheduled backups and optional encryption

For households with more than one BlackBerry, the new software will support multiple handsets.

RIM, however, seem cagey on when the new software will become available.
