Skype 2.8 for Mac brings new features

Improvements, stability and bug fixes

20 July 2009 21:12 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Skype has updated its VoIP Mac software with a number of bug fixes and improvements.

The new version, Skype 2.8, adds the ability to share your screen with others, as well as the ability to share part of the screen so you don't have to show everything you are doing to the person you are chatting to.

Elsewhere, users will now get the ability to buy Wi-Fi access in certain hotspots and pay for it with their Skype account.

You can now add notes to a contact in their profile window, "handy for keeping track of who’s who" according to Skype, and in a move that apes Twitter, uses the mood message chat to keep up with your friends’ updates.

Additionally, in an attempt to make people chat more, Skype says it promises to make it easier to add a third party to a conversation you are already having.

  • Does the latest version of the PC version have compatible screen sharing too? Would be handy for giving tech support to family still using Windows. Posted by Anthony Hocken, UK
