Mirror and privacy display films launch for iPhone

Magic Screens on sale now

20 July 2009 14:39 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

As well as a clear option, PhoneDevil.com is offering new screen protectors for iPhone 3Gs and iPhone 3GSes that in one instance shields your phone's screen from prying eyes and in the other, doubles as a mirror.

The Magic Screen mirror edition film claims to protect your phone's screen from scratches and then "transforms the screen into a perfect mirror while not in use".

The Magic Screen privacy edition uses 3M "privacy material" designed to allow vertical viewing of the phone screen, but not from-the-side viewing, so will protect your phone privacy from nosy parkers on the bus or tube.

However, vertical viewing is enabled (when the phone is held in portrait mode), is so that when the phone is used in landscape mode for games, the screen can still be seen while tilting the phone.

The film is said to be easy to apply and does not need cutting. The claim is that is can easily be removed (leaving no marks) and re-applied.

The clear version is £4.97, mirror edition £6.97 and the privacy edition costs £9.97, all available now from PhoneDevil.com.

  • "allow vertical viewing of the phone screen, but not from-the-side viewing"
So all these "tilt to control" apps will be goosed if you have one of these on as you won't be able to see wtf is going on....

  • Hi John, that's not correct :) When you use the 'tilt to control' apps you use the phone in landscape mode. That's why the protectors are designed to allow vertical viewing Posted by Callum, United Kingdom
  • Sorry I wasn't very clear there. It allows vertical viewing when held in portrait mode, and horizontal viewing when held in landscape mode! Posted by Callum, United Kingdom
  • I put one of these on yesterday and spent several hours texting away while my Mum struggled to work out why she can no longer read what I'm typing and my sister thought I was messing about with a switched off phone!
In my opinion this is a fantastic product, very easy to apply and to reapply if you get it wrong.
Also, regarding the tilt games issue, having spent several hours playing Sims3 (the fishing requires tilting), Labyrinth3D and iPint (all in the name of research!!) I had no trouble at all with viewing the screen. I also found that the higher the brightness on your phone, the greater the viewing angle can be, so I can't imagine a game it wouldn't be possible to play.
I don't know how I managed without this and I've already had people asking about it, although they didn't have an iphone.

  • That's a fantastic product, really usefull especially in the underground and in public places. I hate people when they start to look at what i'm doing on my iphone...

After some days of testing i'm really satisfied, i didnt expect it to work so well.

  • Anyone managed to actually order one of these off phone devils website? I can't get past the first stage of the order process their website doesn't appear to be working properly.

With no contact telephone number and having to register before asking a question is this supplier reliable and are they working from a bedroom?

  • It worked fine for me? All websites have slowdown issues at some point, just try it again. Many websites have no phone number support, their about us even mentions that they are a recent startup. Their website looks bloody amazing, if someone working from a bedroom achieved that then fair play to them!! Posted by James, London
  • Also click on their 'testimonials' section. They're clearly a good supplier...look at their Amazon feedback Posted by James, London
  • Hi Mike,

My name is Callum Bush, I am the Managing Director of PhoneDevil.com.

If you read our 'about us' section you'll see that I worked for 3 years in the Carphone Warehouse trading department managing their non-Retail sales channel.....so would hardly be working from a bedroom would I? :)
...and like James said - If we were then hey, that would be quite an achievement don't you think?!

You also do not need to register to contact us. Simply click 'submit a ticket' and fill in the form as per usual.
If you want to pay the wages of telesales staff for us then I will gladly hire some ;P We reply to all emails within 24 hours, usually within 1-2 hours.

Our host had some connectivity issues yesterday, so i'm sorry about the issues you experienced....it happens to all websites from time to time!
Everything is back to speed now though.

    Best Regards

    Callum
