With more on-agains and off-agains that a soap opera romance, after 18-months of negotiations, a Microsoft and Yahoo deal is now said to be "imminent".

Reports suggest that talks are again under way between the two companies, so Microsoft may finally buy-out Yahoo's search engine division following its previous $45 billion offer for the entire company last winter.

The Guardian reports that an analyst has told investment website 24/7 Wall Street a deal is "imminent", while the All Things Digital blog also suggests an agreement is close to completion.

All hearsay and speculation at this stage, it's thought Microsoft could pay £1.8 billion for Yahoo's search advertising division with a possible revenue sharing deal also mentioned.

We will keep you posted.

  • Well, Yahoo! had a decent run. Seems to have had longer legs than its predecessors like Lycos and AOL managed. Bit of an end to the whole age for me if this happens.

RIP (independent) Yahoo!, it was good while it lasted....
