Six top UK attractions coming to Google Street View

16 July 2009 10:53 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Google Street View, the virtual photography mapping tool, is soon to feature six popular UK tourist attractions.

The result of a campaign from Google and the VisitBritain tourism organisation that asked the public to name their top tourist treasures, the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff topped the poll as the most popular.

The venue will now be snapped by special Street View trikes with a 360-degree virtual tour to be featured on the online service.

The other sites chosen for the photographic mapping are the Angel of the North, Loch Ness, Stonehenge, the Eden Project, Warwick Castle and Bamburgh Castle.

Alternative sites picked out by the public as possibles were dismissed by Google as impractical.

Snowdon, Ben Nevis and the Giant's Causeway were reportedly popular options, but Google said it would be "just too tricky" to capture these on a top-heavy trike.
