Microsoft's Ballmer and Bill Gates on Chrome

Microsoft's Ballmer and Bill Gates on Chrome

Microsoft's previous and current bosses have chimed in with their comments on Google's recently announced Chrome operating system.

Former Microsoft boss Bill Gates effectively told Cnet that it was just another Linux variant, nothing new, and that lack of detail made the OS more intriguing: ""The more vague they are, the more interesting it is".

"There's many, many forms of Linux operating systems out there and packaged in different ways and booted in different ways. In some ways I am surprised people are acting like there's something new. I mean, you've got Android running on netbooks. It's got a browser in it", Gates said.

Meanwhile, current Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said: "Who knows what this thing is? To me, the Chrome OS thing is highly interesting", said Ballmer, with reports suggesting the last two words were said with comically exaggerated care.

"It won't happen for a year and a half and they already announced an operating system", Ballmer continued.

"I don't know if they can't make up their mind or what the problem is over there, but the last time I checked, you don't need two client operating systems", said Ballmer. "It's good to have one".
