More info on 7digital's BlackBerry app unveiled

Due for a September launch

A little more has emerged about the 7digital music download application that we brought you news of for the BlackBerry platform.

Angled as a way to help BlackBerry-maker RIM compete in the consumer smartphone market against the likes of Apple and Nokia, the service is due a September launch.

The Financial Times reports that on launch, around 6 million songs will be available to download in the US, UK, Canada, France, Italy, Germany and Spain, through a downloadable app available from the BlackBerry App World.

"Most" tracks on the service will be DRM-free, and over-the-air downloads, as well as tracks pushed to the phone, will be possible. Tracks are due to cost 79p while albums will be £7.99.
