In a bit of a u-turn, Nokia is prepping the launch of an Android phone, reports suggest. The new handset is due to be launched at Nokia's "world conference" in September, The Guardian reports "industry insiders" stating.
Although Nokia has always said it would not rule out offering an Android-based phone, its buy-out of the Symbian Foundation, and subsequent opening up of the platform, was thought to be a direct response to the formation of Android's Open Handset Alliance.
The move would see Nokia going head-to-head with HTC, currently the biggest manufacturer of Android-based handsets with three models on the market.
It's not known what kind of specs the device - a touchscreen phone - will offer, but we will keep you posted with any news.
UPDATE: A Nokia spokesperson has got in touch with Pocket-lint with the following statement: "There is no truth to this story whatsoever. It is a well known fact that Symbian is our platform of choice for smartphones".
