Spotify offers first audio book

Trials service with new Chris Anderson title

3 July 2009 9:13 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Spotify has announced it is to offer its first audiobook on the music streaming service.

Rather than a complete change of direction, it's a trial, to see what people think, with Spotify stating: "who knows, maybe this is the start of something new for us…"

The first title is Chris Anderson's new book "Free: The Future of a Radical Price", that follows "The Long Tail".

Spotify describes the release as: "Personally narrated by Anderson, Free considers a brave new world where the old economic certainties are being challenged by a growing flood of free goods – newspapers, DVDs, T-shirts, phones, even holiday flights".

The new book is available to all UK users now.
