O2 and Orange eye T-Mobile

Will there be a bidding war?

1 July 2009 10:06 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Following the news we brought you that Vodafone was considering a buy-out of struggling mobile phone operator T-Mobile, it seems both Orange and O2 are also looking at the option.

Orange is now said to have entered into the negotiations for Deutsche Telekom-owned T-Mobile while O2 is said to have also expressed an interest in an acquisition.

T-Mobile is said to be up for grabs for around the £3 billion mark, but if an existing operator attempts to take over the company, will likely face scrutiny from regulators.

T-Mobile has a networking sharing deal with 3, as well as being the network behind Virgin Mobile, although it's said Virgin has an opt-out clause to partner with someone else if T-Mobile is sold.
