3GSM 2006: Motorola update the Q and go cheap with the W220

Motorola announce upgraded Q smartphone and cheap W220 at 3GSM in Barcelona, Spain

Motorola has announced that it has upgraded its Q smartphone at 3GSM in Barcelona, Spain while at the same time launching a cheap affordable entry-level phone in the guise of the W220.

The new supposedly thinner Qwerty Q for UMTS will come with 3G connectivity, wireless connectivity and Microsoft's familiar Windows Mobile software along side Windows Media Player.

The first Motorola Q is expected to be available this quarter on CDMA/EVDO and available for operator trials in late Q4 2006.

Just like other mobile phone manufacturers, the company has gone cheap with its new Motorola W220.

The company is claiming the model is its “first value-priced thin clamshell handset” and it incorporates an integrated FM radio but little else.

The W220 measures in at 46 x 95 x 16.6mm and 93 grams. Its features also include a 128 x 128 colour screen and expanded battery life that accommodates up to 497 minutes of talk time and 293 hours stand-by.

The Motorola W220 is expected to be available in Q3 2006.
