Tesla confirms right-hand drive Roadster

US electric car maker Tesla has confirmed that it will make a right-hand drive version of its Roadster model, due in early 2010.

The Roadster is designed around the Lotus Elise and unlike other electric cars, can go fast. 0 to 60 in less than 4 seconds fast. A 3-hour charge gives the motor a range of over 200 miles.

The left-hand drive version of the Roadster is on sale in the UK now for around £90,000.

The announcement came as company owner Elon Musk opened the first European dealership, and what will become Tesla's flagship Euro showroom in Kensington, London.

Elon Musk said that Europe "had the potential to become a huge market for Tesla, bigger even than the US".

The showroom launch debuted the faster Tesla Roadster Sport in the UK, while development of the Model S electric saloon was confirmed as "back on track" for launch in late 2011.
