A new report suggests that iPhone 3GSs, especially the white models, may be suffering from a hardware defect that causes a rattle.

In the video above, IntoMobile demonstrates the problem they have identified on a 32GB white iPhone 3GS, but claims the problem is widespread.

The rattle, that's said to be coming from just underneath the power button and camera lens area, has also been noticed by other users with posts on Apple's Support from others noticing the noise.

IntoMobile took the handset to an Apple Store Genius for a once-over. The staffer was apparently aware of the problem and suggested that Apple may be planning to replace defective units, but could confirm no plans.
