Poor Yuu-chan. The Loggerhead Sea Turtle was recently attacked by a shark and lost chunks of her left and right front flippers. To add insult to injury, she was then caught in a fishing net.

Luckily, she washed up in Japan. The Sea Turtle Association of Japan got in touch with biorobotics specialists who crafted her a nifty and rather lethal-looking pair of robotic flippers.

The scientists are currently looking after Yuu-chan in a swimming pool and sea pond, as well as improving the flippers wherever possible. They measure 65cm long and weigh 1.3kg each, though weight is obviously not such a big deal underwater.
