Adobe: Flash support to smartphones this year

But which ones miss out?

Adobe has confirmed that web TV fans should be able to get their fix of video on the go on their mobile from later on this year.

"We are bringing Flash player 10 to smartphone class devices to enable the latest web browsing experience", confirmed Shantanu Narayen, president and CEO of Adobe.

The company, who said that they are already working with key players has also promised to seed a version for developers in October.

"Google's Android, Nokia's Symbian OS, Windows Mobile and the new Palm webOS will be among the first devices to support web browsing with the new flash player" says Narayen suggesting Apple may possibly miss out on any first tier push before Christmas.

However with chip makers ARM, Nvidia, Broadcom, Intel, Texas Instruments and Qualcomm all working to improve support for Flash within their chipsets, it's unlikely any new smartphone announced after 2009 will be lacking Flash support.

Video support in browser on smartphones has been the last big feature yet to be cracked, with Adobe so far slow to enable the technology for viewers wanting to watch rather than read on the go.

Adobe first announced plans to bring Flash support to mobiles back in 2008.
