iTunes variable pricing said to be successful

Contrary to reports earlier this year

Reports from analysts indicate that being forced to introduce variable pricing to the iTunes store has proven to be a moneymaker for artists, and therefore Apple.

Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" is one of the albums whose price was raised to the maximum back in April 2009. SoundScan data from Nielsen indicates that although individual track sales plummeted, album sales remained steady and generated 12% more revenue than before the price hike.

The reports come in contrast to news from the start of May where "numerous sources" at major labels said that sales decreases had been seen across the board since variable pricing was implemented.
