Microsoft gets confused, denies new console

Project Natal will ship alone

Despite Steve Ballmer being quoted by numerous sources as saying that "a new Xbox 360 will hit the store shelves in 2010", Microsoft's Director of Product Management for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, Aaron Greenberg, has come out saying "there will be no console".

"We're not going to be launching a new console any time soon", said Greenberg. "I really believe he was speaking about Project Natal. (...) We're barely halfway through this generation. We're happy with the Xbox 360, so there are no changes from that standpoint".

Either way, it appears that Natal will be showing up next year, with or without a new Xbox 360 accompanying it. Natal is confirmed to run on the existing Xbox 360.

We'll keep you posted.
