O2: Over half of iPhone customers downloaded 3.0

Phone company reporting update success

19 June 2009 10:00 GMT / By Duncan Geere

Phone company O2 has announced that over half of its customers have upgraded to 3.0, less that 40 hours after it was released to the public.

In a tweet from its official @o2 account, the company said: "Over half our iPhone customers have downloaded 3.0 software and are already benefiting from new features".

Early reports indicate that the release of the iPhone has met with a muted response. Small queues formed outside London Apple and O2 stores, but nothing compared to the crowds for the release of the original handset in 2007.

Pocket-lint readers overwhelmingly declared that the new handset is "too expensive", but many have upgraded their existing iPhone 3Gs to the new version of the software.
