Logitech announces Vid software for webcams

"Dramatically simplifies" video calling

17 June 2009 16:40 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Logitech is offering a new, free software download for users of its webcams with the launch of "Vid" for both PCs and Macs.

Claiming to "dramatically simplify" video calling, offering a streamlined setup and a simple, intuitive interface, Vid auto-optimises settings like frame rate and resolution for you while contacts in Vid are displayed as click-to-call thumbnails.

Reading between the lines of the press blurb ("...from the sparkle in your daughter's engagement ring to the smile on your grandson's face...") it seems the software is angled towards an older audience that may struggle with a more technical set up process.

Free with Logitech webcams, the software can also be shared with video-calling contacts free for 30 days, after which they'll have to buy a Logitech webcam to continue using it.
