iPhone OS 3.0 due between 5pm and 7pm

Time zones give clue for release schedule

iPhone users, stand ready, because it appears that the OS 3.0 upgrade should be arriving between 5pm and 7pm today (UK time).

Following up reports that it was delayed until tomorrow, Twitter user @richardlai checked out different Apple sites around the world and discovered that Apple Singapore was reporting 18 June, while Apple India was reporting 17 June.

A bit of timezone jiggery-pokery gives us the times above, which translates to 4pm to 6pm in the rest of Western Europe, and somewhere between midday and 2pm on the East Coast of the United States.

Make sure your iPhone's plugged in and ready to sync between those times, if you want to be the first to get the update.

Update: Some sites are reporting the update could arrive sooner, with MacFormat claiming 3pm. We'll find out shortly, we suppose!

Update II: 3pm comes and goes with no upgrade. We're putting our money on 6pm GMT, as Hong Kong's iPhone users claim to have received a text saying that it'll be arriving at that time.

I think it will be released at about 9am-11am Pacific Standard Time. This makes sense because apple is located in Cupertino CA and this would be the beginning of the workday there... allowing them to trouble shoot any major problems during the day... there (sorry europe). I know I'm going to be so dissappointed when this finally gets released... I was up at the crack of dawn this morning , plugged the iphone into the pc.. no update, all day I've been checking and reading forums about when people are speculating on the release... I'm like a child at christmas!!

I just cannot comprehend how their servers will cope with a simultaneous worldwide download. Would have made sense to have launched at 3am (many asleep) or 10am (many at work) in each time zone to stagger it. Apple are like ponsy nightclubs who keep people waiting outside just to make it look exclusive and desirable. As I said. they toy with our minds like we are slaves to their tiny gifts!

Okay everyoe, so I just got off the phone w/ at&t. If you dial 611 from you iphone and go to tech support you will get connected to an Apple representative. I asked the Apple rep about the mms feature in the USA and she advised me that she does not know becuase that has to do w/ at&t, and not Apple. She she connected me to an at&t rep and after waiting a couple minutes, the rep from at&t said that the lastest information he has received is that MMS WILL WORK once you download the 3.0 patch. He also advised to restart the iphone to reset any available memory, and that if there were any problems to call at&t back because they might have to change something on their end. So that is the most up to date information that I have. Hopefully he is right as I can't tell because I'm at work and won't be able to download the patch until 1:30pm EST if it's available. If your itunes keeps saying there is no update....constantly press update and enter to cancel each time. Do this for as long as possible.

Ok, so who is unbelievably disappointed and/or dumbfounded with this update?

What a waste of time.

Yeah I can use a landscape keyboard, MMS, bluetooth and search the phone and that's it - there is virtually no difference whatsoever, and Safari seemingly slower than before the update if not completely not responding.

As someone stated above, we can now do a couple of things that mobile phones have been doing for over a decade, great.

Wasn't video recording slated to be part of this update?

i havent had anything from o2 saying i can use mms and ive now sent 2 txts to 1010 but had nothin back. anyone got any ideas as to wots goin wrong???

Alex. Did you back up the iPhone before hand? I got a new Unibody Macbook Pro a couple of months back and had to download all the Apps again as I didn't have them on the computer (Mac or Windoz). The good thing was my iTunes account knew what I had already bought and allowed me to download them for free (or again as i'd paid). Bit of a slow process but it's fair and it works.. I cant access my phone after the update since iTunes cant access the iTunes Store.

The problem isnt the phones, its the Apple Store servers. You will be able to access the "Music" Apple Store, but not the one that goes under the Iphone.

It must be something with the registration of what version you have on the phone, so they need to keep in there databas or something (just what i think it can be)

KOD. It was never a huge update really. Copy/Paste is a real bonus. Searching is great although I know where pretty much anything is anyways. The big one for me was any speed improvements etc. IMO, they could have installed Flash and I would have thought it was a seriously big upgrade but that's not as practical and implementable as many may think. It was a much needed upgrade but not 'the new iPhone' that so many of us lead ourselves to believe. Posted by rooster, United Kingdom

Downloaded. Updated (the server gave me the expected unavailable message' for a while. Eventually the iPhone updated. All working. Some mediocre update experience but that's all I expected. Some nice features. Just a slightly better iPhone which is all I wanted, and expected!
