Garmin Foretrex 401 and 301 released

Lost and found?

16 June 2009 20:58 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Garmin has announced an update to its Foretrex range introducing two new models; The Foretrek 401 and the Foretrek 301.

Lightweight and waterproof, the wrist mounted GPS navigators aimed at runners who like to go "off-route" will feature a high-sensitivity, WAAS-enabled GPS receiver and USB port so you can connect it to a computer for data logging.

Ideal for those who regularly get lost, the Foretrex will offer a TracBack feature that lets you retrace your path back to where you started, as well as coming with a dual-position readout so that you can view your current location in multiple formats, including latitude/longitude.

Adding even more features to the mix, Foretrex 401 has an electronic compass and a barometric altimeter.

Powered by two AAA batteries, Garmin says the new 301 will offer 18 hours of battery life, while you'll get 17 hours in the 401. You can also chronicle your activities by storing up to 500 waypoints, 20 routes or a tracklog of up to 10,000 points and 10 saved tracks.

No word on pricing as yet, however the new models should be available at the beginning of August in the UK.
