Amazon glitch gives free MP3 downloads

We're getting reports that between midnight and 5.30 am on 11 June, Amazon customers were able to purchase MP3 downloads for absolutely nothing, with the charges removed from the bill as a "Promotion"

A poster, "Dumpling", on the HotUKDeals message board reported that she wasn't being charged, and shortly afterwards other users confirmed that the trick was working. Up to £10 of music per order was being granted as free.

By 5.30am, the original poster confirmed that the glitch appeared to have been fixed, saying "RIP Amazon promotional discount".

Will Amazon chase users for their money? Users said that they were able to register new accounts with fake details and no payment options, and still take advantage of the offer. As a result, it's unlikely that they'll be able to claim back the cash.

The glitch appeared to be limited to the UK store, but that didn't stop one user from New Zealand accessing the site from a UK proxy and downloading eight albums for free.
