Targeting the tech market with cunning precision, Heinz has co-developed a new portable microwave that can be powered by USB.

The "Beanzawave" measures 7.4-inches tall by 6.2-inches wide and 5.9-inches deep, ideal for office use, but is only at prototype stage.

Experts at the Microwave Association have told the Daily Mail that such a device is technically possible, but would likely be costly, with a possible price pegged around £100 mark.

  • this cant be real?

    USB = MAX 5W

    thats 5 J / second

    thats only 300 Joules per minute

    it takes 4200 Joules to raise 1kg of water 1 Degree C

    assuming that small looking pot is 200g, and its mainly water, then it would take:

    2.8 MINUTES to raise the temperature of those beans by 1 degree C

    to get it from room temp (20) to a hottemperature (say 70C) would take 2 hours and 20 minutes?!?!

    and that's assuming that the pot doesnt loose any heat -and it would probably be loosing heat faster than than this would be putting it in

  • I'd imagine that it could run off of a couple of mobile phone batteries for a short 1 or 2 minute burst, and recharge from USB. Also it may not need to get as hot as you suggest, as reheating to about 50 degress might be acceptable for a coffee or a pot of beans.

    You could do the maths better than me, is this feasable?
