At the WWDC Apple event in San Fran, Scott Forstall, the senior vice president of iPhone software for Apple, revealed that there are now over 50,000 apps on the App Store.

Stating it's been an "incredible year for the iPhone", Forstall announced Apple has now sold over 40 million iPhone and iPod touches, with the billion apps sold milestone passed earlier this year, as we've previously reported.

Developer response is said to have been very positive with the SDK for the iPhone downloaded over one million times.
