Unsurprisingly, just a working day away from the opening day of Apple's WWDC event, and Phil Schiler's keynote, Apple-themed rumours have reached fever pitch on the Internet. Most focus on the iPhone, with speculation about a new model to be launched next week heightening further, although some iPod-related rumours have crept into the mix.
First up from the Financial Times is the news that Apple is planning to launch a cut-price version of iPhone.
The business paper, following whispers of such a move from other quarters, reports as follows:
"Apple plans to introduce a cheaper version of its popular iPhone as soon as Monday, in a move that could dramatically increase the company’s share of the market for web-surfing devices, people familiar with the initiative said".
A $99, or maybe $149, price point is rumoured, with production said to begin in July.
Next up is Apple blog TUAW chiming in with news from an anonymous tipster stating that at one point, although apparently not any longer, AT&T (the official iPhone operator in the US) was showing an "iPhone Video" as an option on its support site, triggering speculation this is what the new model could be called.
Then we have news from AppleInsider that the Carphone Warehouse, an official iPhone reseller in the UK, has added four placeholders to their inventory list for new iPhone models.
A screenshot of its inventory system sent into the site shows placeholders for both 16GB and 32GB iPhones in both white and black.
Finally on the iPod front, girly gadget blog GeekSugar, which has been proved correct with Apple rumour news before, reports that although unexpected at WWDC, Apple will be launching a new iPod nano at the show.
And Apple Insider again has suggestions as to what that new model might feature with news that the next-gen iPods will support multi-touch gestures through the click-wheel.
