Asus shows UX30

New 13.3-incher

Asus’ 13.3-inch CULV UX30 notebook made an appearance at Computex and it’s not hard to tell that Asus is trying to compete with Apple’s MacBook Air with the UX30.

The keyboard is quite well designed, although still not as nice as on some devices that we’ve seen at the show, but Asus has gone for a very large touch pad which a lot of people should like.

At 1.6kg and 328 x 222 x 23mm, the UX30 is both slim and portable, although it can’t compete with the MacBook air in terms of size or weight.

However, where Asus can compete is when it comes to connectivity, as the UX30 features three USB 2.0 ports, a headphone jack, an Ethernet port, a mini D-sub connector (similar to the one on the Eee PC 1008HA) and even an HDMI port.

The model on display wasn’t a final product sample and the chassis still seem to need a little bit of work. The UX30 should be available with a wide range of Intel CULV processors and hard drive options, as well as Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR, Wi-Fi and Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics, which offer HD video playback via the HDMI port. An external optical drive should also be available as an option.
