Asus invents fake wood finish for laptops

"NeoWood" joins satin brushed aluminium as new veneers

5 June 2009 14:55 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Asus has unveiled two new notebook finishes at Computex that are said to offer practical - as well as aesthetic - functions.

The "satin-brushed aluminium" offers an "elegant" pattern along with scratch resistance and claims to improve wireless/Bluetooth performance.

The "NeoWood" finish is said be a high-strength wood grain veneer "which looks and feels like real wood".

Asus says that "not only does it provide the premium looks and natural tactility of real wood, it also maintains a level of resilience that far surpasses that of regular wood".

The two new finishes will be available on certain laptops from Q3 in the UK.
